ESPN: Women’s Pro Baseball League to hold tryouts at Nationals Park

The Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) is holding tryouts from August 22–25 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., as it prepares for its inaugural season in spring 2026 with six teams. Over 600 players registered for the camp, but only 150 will be selected for the league’s October draft. The first three days of tryouts will involve drills and evaluations, with final cuts made after a live game on the last day.

The league was co-founded by Justine Siegal, the first female MLB coach, and marks the first pro women’s baseball league since 1954. Team USA star Alex Hugo will lead the tryouts. The WPBL has secured a media deal with Fremantle and named Assia Grazioli-Venier as chair, signaling strong momentum and support for the league’s launch.
