USA Today: Women’s baseball trailblazer hopes new league helps girls ‘fall back in love’

Kelsie Whitmore is ready for a new chapter.

After years of blazing her own trail through boys’ teams, college softball, and pro ball against men, the 27-year-old pioneer will join over 600 players at the Women’s Professional Baseball League tryouts in Washington, D.C., Aug. 22–25. For Whitmore, it’s a rare chance to step into a league built for women from the ground up—and a long-awaited opportunity to thrive alongside her peers as the WPBL prepares for its 2026 launch.
