The Hunters Take a 2-1 Series Lead Over the Heights With a 6-1 Dominant Pitching Performance

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS: Reggie Jackson was fondly referred to as Mr. October for his penchant for hitting home runs in the Fall. Now another NY baseball player is chasing her own moniker for what she’s accomplished so far in the WPBL this Summer.

The league leading in everything Denae Benites may not have been a factor tonight, but the Heights rising star would not be denied extending her hitting streak to five in her final at bat. Unfortunately, we never got to see what damage she could’ve done if there were runners on base before her.

Boston skipper Jemile Weeks jostled the lineup in his second game in the driver’s seat

and the result reaped benefits. Every player who came to bat reached base for being poised and patient at the plate.

Ticara Geldenhuis hit three for the Hunters, earning her Player of the Game and an interview with sideline reporter, AJ Andrews. The b-story was the Hunters pitching staff, who were on their a-game, holding the Heights to new lows.

The mound office of Schroder, Schiano and Bricker surrendered a combined one run on eight hits with five free passes and a pair of K’s.

Starting pitcher Alli Schroder went from the worst of times in her first appearance, to the best of times in tonight’s spectacular four inning stay. The Canadian who fights wildland fires in her native land, got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the first, and barely looked back.

NY reliever London Studor rebounded from her prior third of an inning five run frustration – with two and two thirds of three scattered hits – fanning four.

Something’s brewing with Boston and we’ll just have to wait and see what they have up their sleeve when they vie to avenge their eight run loss against LA in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Saturday.
