Is the league open to players under 18?
Players must be at least 18 years old by May 1, 2026 to participate in the league.
Where and when will the tryouts take place?
August 22–24: Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy
August 25: Nationals Park, home of the Washington Nationals
Will players try out for one position or can they try out for multiple positions?
Players will be evaluated at their primary and secondary positions.
Will teams be formed through a draft?
Yes
When is the player draft?
October 2025
When will the teams be announced?
Prior to the player draft in October 2025.
How many players will be on each team?
Each team will have approximately 15 players.
Will players have any flexibility in their schedules if they have other work or family commitments?
The league will discuss individual players’ circumstances on a case by case basis.
How many innings are games?
7 innings
Where will the teams be located?
The season will take place at one or two venues for the inaugural season. The location will be announced shortly.
Will players live full time in the city of play?
The league will offer housing for players through the duration of the season, but players may also travel home on non-game days. The League will offer reasonable travel stipends when applicable for players who wish to travel home for non-game days.
What are players expected to do during the week when games aren’t played?
Some players, with extra payment, will participate in grassroots efforts, clinics, media days, etc. Other players can attend to their outside commitments. All players are responsible for their training prior to and during the season.
When are practices?
Practice schedules will be determined by coaches and players.
How is the season’s schedule structured?
The inaugural season will be approximately 7 weeks in total: a 4 weeks of regular season play, 1 week of all-star competition, and 2 weeks of playoffs. Games will be played from Thursday to Sunday with each team playing 2 games per week. The league will begin in May 2026. There will be a 4 day training period prior to the regular season while players are expected to get into regular season shape on their own prior to the season.
Will there be translators available for non-English speaking players?
Yes.
Does the league have relationships with women’s baseball national governing bodies?
The league has working relationships with the national governing bodies.
Will the WPBL conflict with any Other women’s baseball competition?
The league will create a schedule that best avoids any conflicts with other major women’s baseball activities.
Are NCAA athletes able to participate in the league without violating their NCAA status as an amateur athlete?
Non-baseball athletes are eligible to compete in the league. All athletes are strongly encouraged to confirm their eligibility with their school’s compliance officer.
What kind of bats will be used in the league?
Aluminum bats
Will every player’s salary be the same?
Players will be paid per game at a rate determined by their selection order in the draft.
Will there be financial incentives?
Players will receive a portion of the revenue share from league sponsorship.
Will in-season living expenses be covered?
Housing will be provided for all players.
Will foreign players’ visas be sponsored by and paid for the league?
Yes.
