TRYOUT FAQs


Are there any age restrictions?

Players must be 18 years of age by May 1, 2026. There is no maximum age limit.


What are the bat requirements for tryouts?

All aluminum bats are acceptable for the 2025 tryouts. There are no weight, length, or drop restrictions.


Will there be shuttles from the airport to the hotel?

Athletes will be responsible for their own transportation throughout the tryouts.


Will players need to warm up on their own before arriving at the park?

No, players will have time to warm up at the tryout facilities before evaluations begin.


Will any equipment be provided?

Players are responsible for bringing all of their own equipment. Required equipment includes: batting helmet, glove, cleats and/or turf shoes, bat, white baseball pants, black belt, black socks, and a t-shirt you are comfortable in. If you are trying out as a catcher, you must bring your own catching gear. Please bring your own re-fillable water bottle.


What cleats should I bring for tryouts?

Molded/rubber cleats or turfs. Metal cleats are not permitted. 


Can I use my softball gear or do I need to buy baseball gear?

While baseball gear is strongly recommended over softball gear, you may use softball equipment. Softball bats are not made to hit baseballs and may provide a disadvantage. Softball helmets may be worn.


Will a tryout shirt be given?

All participants will receive a tshirt. 


Will I be reimbursed for the final night of accommodations if I make it to the last day of tryouts?

Yes, the WPBL will cover accommodation costs for players who are selected to participate in the last day of tryouts. The WPBL will reimburse selected players who booked a room for the final night in advance. 


What will the initial evaluations consist of? / What will the cuts consist of?

Players will be notified at the end of each day whether they will advance to the next day of the tryouts or be cut. 


What time are tryouts? Is there a start and end time?

Players should plan to be available all day, each day of the tryouts. Players will be assigned shifts in advance. 


If I am cut before the last day of tryouts, am I permitted to watch the rest of the tryouts?

Yes


Can friends and family attend to watch tryouts?

Friends and family are encouraged to come watch tryouts at Nationals Park on August 25. Limited friends and family will be permitted to watch their athletes try out at the academy.


Are tryouts open to the public?

Fans are encouraged to come watch tryouts at Nationals Park on August 25. The public is not permitted to attend the tryouts at the academy. 


Do I need to submit any additional paperwork before attending tryouts?

For those that will be under 18 years old at tryouts, we will be sending out a release for a parent or legal guardian to sign. 


I submitted the form and asked to be evaluated online. Will there be any updates regarding online evaluations?

The WPBL evaluation staff will review each video submission. Upon review, the evaluation staff will reach out to you regarding your video.
