San Francisco Firebells Clinch No. 1 Seed in Women’s Pro Baseball League Postseason

SEPTEMBER 3rd, SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS — The Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL) officially announced today that the San Francisco Firebells have clinched the no. 1 seeding for the upcoming Postseason and are the regular season champions. By securing first place in the regular season, it gives San Francisco home field advantage throughout the Postseason.

The Firebells will begin their highly anticipated journey to The WPBL Championship on Wednesday, September 9th, at 6:00 p.m. CST, in Game 1 of the Postseason when the top-seeded squad is scheduled to face off against the tournament’s no. 4 seed, which is still to be determined. Official seeding and WPBL Postseason matchups will be announced as soon as teams clinch in the upcoming days. If the New York Heights win tonight, the Boston Hunters will be locked in as the #4 seed to face the Firebells.

“Our team has worked tirelessly all season to earn this position,” said Matt Williams, San Francisco Firebells Team Manager. “Securing the number one seed is a testament to the dedication of our players, coaches, and staff. Finishing atop the regular-season standings is a great milestone, but our ultimate goal remains bringing home The WPBL Championship trophy. We can’t wait to feel the energy of our fans at home on September 9th.”

The WPBL’s inaugural regular season is nearing conclusion at historic Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois. Selling out Opening Day on August 1st, ESPN and the Scripps Sports Network serve as the League’s primary media home this season, ensuring fans across the U.S. have widespread access to the League’s debut season. Fans internationally are able watch on the League’s YouTube Channel.

Following the WPBL’s thrilling 30-game regular season conclusion on September 6, the battle for the first-ever WPBL Championship begins Wednesday, September 9. The postseason schedule features a high-stakes, best-of-three Semifinal Round where the League’s four teams – the Boston Hunters, Los Angeles Queens, New York Heights, and San Francisco Firebells – will compete for a spot in the Championship. The action culminates in a best-of-five Championship Series beginning Wednesday, September 16, to crown the historic first champion of the WPBL.
